Earlier this week, I had a conversation with some friends, and one of them posed me with a question that she had been dealing with for a while: “what is the fastest way to lose fat?” Now, if you’ve followed Sentinel for any amount of time, you’ve learned from us that there are multiple factors that play into weight loss. But in essence, the key to losing weight in the quickest way possible, really boils down to only one thing…
It’s true that exercise, particularly resistance training, is the cornerstone to any weight loss program. After all, any unwanted fat we have is really just unused energy. So, in order to get rid of that fat, we have to use the energy-through exercise!
Likewise, if unused energy gets stored as fat, we know that we, not only need to burn currently-stored calories, but also watch our intake of new calories, too! So, our diet plays a role in our weight control/general health as well.
But neither of these two attack plans mean anything without consistency. The healthy lifestyle requires DAILY attention! As hall-of-fame coach Vince Lombardi used to say, “winning isn’t a sometimes thing; it’s an all the time thing.” The same idea holds true for losing weight! The body needs to be constantly and progressively stressed through exercise in order to continually improve, and your diet needs to stay on-point in order to avoid set-backs.
That said, “consistency” (as it applies to weight loss) doesn’t mean you have to be addicted to exercise, or eternally avoid any foods or drinks that we enjoy out of fear of gaining weight. Rather, the take-home point is that the body needs to be trained (both through exercise and healthy eating habits) to turn into an efficient, calorie-burning machine instead of being a fat-storing tank.
So take action steps NOW towards building your own consistency!
